Space Startup CEO Lays Off 80% Of Personnel, Declares: ‘I Wanna Be A Vessel For Love’

OAKLAND — Robert Smith, CEO of Spacetac Systems—a San Francisco-based startup offering orbital transfer as a service, or OTaaS—has let go 250 people from the company payroll, accounting for roughly 80% of total personnel. An audio of the call where Mr. Smith conveyed the bad news to the unlucky employees has leaked to the press. In the call, Mr. Smith can be heard saying “I want to be a vessel for love. That’s what I want to do, I want to be an ambassador for that kind of love and care and concern. I’m being called on in my life to love people, and to protect people, and to be a river to my people.”. The laid off employees have been fired with no benefits.
