Mark Zuckerberg Dodges Responsibility About Disinformation Campaigns: ‘Blame PHP’

SAN FRANCISCO — During an online hearing with members of the bipartisan Digital Policy Making Committee of the US Congress early March this year, Mark Zuckerberg—CEO of Meta, Facebook parent company—avoided accusations about Facebook facilitating the spreading of disinformation and fake news. Mr. Zuckerberg stated that “it is PHP the one to blame here, the language Facebook is coded in, making possible that all that information comes and goes without giving us any mechanism to detect it, which is a grave fault in the design of the programming language, and it should be investigated and prosecuted accordingly”.
